Tirupati / Vijayawada: PG Electroplast Ltd, via its wholly-owned arm PG Technoplast Pvt Ltd, has acquired 50 acres in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, to build an integrated manufacturing campus with a total investment of around ₹1,000 crore over the next five years.
The first phase will focus on a refrigerator manufacturing plant with an annual capacity of 1.2 million units. The company aims to begin commercial production by December 2026.
Beyond refrigerators, PG Electroplast plans to expand into the manufacture of air conditioners, washing machines and other appliances and electronics in later phases.
In the initial phase, over 500 direct jobs are expected to be created. The project is also expected to spur growth in related sectors including component manufacturing, logistics, and allied services in the Sri City industrial ecosystem.
Strategic rationale & locational advantages
PG Electroplast describes this as its largest land acquisition to date and its first foray into South India.
The choice of Sri City is strategic — its proximity to Chennai port and good connectivity to southern markets makes it favorable for both domestic distribution and export ambitions.
If PG succeeds in executing this campus efficiently, it could bolster Sri City’s position as a manufacturing hub for home appliances and electronics — a trend already visible in the region’s growing dominance in air conditioner manufacturing.
State backing and response
Andhra Pradesh’s IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed the investment, thanking PG Electroplast for placing its trust in the state.
Lokesh noted that the campus would generate “500 direct and over 2,000 indirect jobs,” and emphasized that Sri City’s industrial infrastructure will gain further strength from this project.
State agencies and Sri City authorities will reportedly assist with fast-tracking statutory approvals, infrastructure tie-ups and talent pipelines to stick to the timeline.
