Nara Lokesh at stone-laying of Sify Data Centre

Visakhapatnam’s First AI Edge Data Center & Open Cable Landing Station Launched

From Our Correspondent

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh took a major stride toward becoming a global digital hub with the launch of Visakhapatnam’s first AI-powered Edge Data Center and Open Cable Landing Station (CLS). The foundation stone for the ₹1,500-crore project, to be developed by Sify Infinit Spaces Limited, was laid today by IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh.

The facility, to be built on 3.6 acres of land allotted by the state government, will have a capacity of 50 MW and serve as a key node for AI-driven enterprises and next-generation digital infrastructure. The Edge Data Center will be interconnected via an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) substation and linked by at least two independent fiber networks.

During construction and operational phases, the project is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs, drawing from both technical and locally trained manpower.

The Open Cable Landing Station will further strengthen India’s digital backbone by enabling undersea cable connectivity and expanding AI compute capacity at the edge. Positioned strategically on India’s east coast, the Vizag CLS will serve as a vital landing point for submarine cables connecting India to Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand.

“Visakhapatnam is fast emerging as India’s global digital gateway on the eastern seaboard. Sify’s world-class infrastructure will strengthen our state’s position on the global technology map and catalyze new opportunities in innovation, employment, and investment. This marks a defining moment in Andhra Pradesh’s digital journey and India’s march toward technological self-reliance,” said Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics and Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

“We are proud to enable Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a key hub for global connectivity and digital infrastructure. This initiative is part of our long-term commitment to strengthening India’s digital economy and advancing AI-led innovation,” said Raju Vegesna, Chairman of Sify Technologies.
