Melbourne, Australia: Andhra Pradesh is implementing a series of transformative reforms to build a world-class education system by 2029, Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh said at the International Education Roundtable held in Melbourne on Wednesday.
The meeting, organised by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), brought together representatives from Study Melbourne, Victorian Department of Education, and major institutions including the University of Melbourne, Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology, and RMIT University.
Speaking at the event, Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh has launched the Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP) initiative to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for future skills. “LEAP is guiding a new generation of education reforms in the state,” he said, adding that Andhra Pradesh is adopting global best practices in teaching to ensure the holistic development of students.
“Our goal is to equip students with 21st-century skills,” Lokesh said. “We are moving beyond traditional methods by introducing play-based learning, AI-driven teaching tools, and innovative programmes such as Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). Through AI and emerging technologies, we are training students in technical, leadership, and real-life skills under a results-based approach.”
He said the revised curriculum, aligned with NEP 2020, integrates digital education and future skills while emphasising ethical values at all levels of learning.
Representatives of Study Melbourne said Victoria hosts over 1.75 lakh international students each year from 170 countries — mainly from China, India, Vietnam, and Nepal — contributing $12.6 billion to the state’s economy. They noted that Victoria remains the top destination for international students in Australia, offering high-quality education, scholarships, research opportunities, and vibrant cultural diversity.
Melbourne, they added, continues to rank as one of the world’s most liveable cities, reflecting its strong educational and social environment.
