Bill likely to be tabled in Parliament during the December session for notifying Amaravati as capital

Amaravati Capital Bill in Parliament Likely in December

Amaravati: CRDA Commissioner Kanna Babu on Tuesday told farmers that the long-pending issue of issuing a Gazette notification recognising Amaravati as the capital is now moving forward, with a Bill likely to be tabled in Parliament during the December session.

During an interaction with farmer representatives, several raised concerns over why the Gazette had been delayed for years. Responding, Kanna Babu said no capital city in India has ever been notified through a Gazette, including Hyderabad. Farmers countered that the AP Reorganisation Act itself designates Hyderabad as the common capital for ten years, which is why they insisted on a Gazette for Amaravati.

The Commissioner said the matter had been escalated to the Union Home Ministry, which agreed in principle to issue a Gazette. However, certain legal objections were raised by officials in the Law Department, and those are now being resolved. “Once these issues are cleared, the Amaravati Bill may be placed in Parliament in December,” he assured.

Farmers also highlighted issues with village-level road alignments, pointing out that some stretches were being left unused. Kanna Babu said those pockets would be earmarked for small commercial shops so farmers could make productive use of them.

On concerns that plot boundary stones were not visible and causing anxiety, the Commissioner clarified that ongoing works were the reason for the temporary absence. He said pag-mark indicators would be shown now, and once developers finish the layout works, final boundary stones would be installed and handed over to plot owners.

He added that placing boundary stones at this stage could lead to repeated removal or damage during construction activity, which is why they would be fixed only after full development.

The Commissioner assured farmers that all pending issues would be addressed in a structured manner as Amaravati’s capital works move into the next phase.
