From Our Correspondent

Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved the creation of three new districts—Polavaram, Markapuram and Madanapalle—raising Andhra Pradesh’s district count from 26 to 29. The decision follows a detailed review of the Ministers’ Committee report at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Proposals will now move to the Cabinet, after which formal notifications will be issued.

The CM also cleared the formation of five new revenue divisions—Nakkapalli (Anakapalli), Addanki (Prakasam), Pileru (new Madanapalle district), Banaganapalle (Nandyal) and Madakasira (Sri Sathya Sai)—along with the creation of a new mandal, Pedda Harivanam, carved out of Adoni in Kurnool. Penugonda mandal in West Godavari will be renamed Vasavi Penugonda.

New District Profiles

Polavaram District: To be headquartered at Rampachodavaram, it will comprise the Rampachodavaram and Chinturu revenue divisions, covering mandals such as Devipatnam, Maredumilli, Yatapaka and Kunavaram, with a population of 3.49 lakh.

Markapuram District: Formed with Markapuram and Kanigiri revenue divisions, the district will include major mandals like Yerragondapalem, Darsi, Pullalacheruvu, Kanigiri, Giddalur and Racherla, accounting for 11.42 lakh people.

Madanapalle District: Built around the Madanapalle and Pileru revenue divisions, it will consist of mandals including Nimmanapalle, Thamballapalle, Punganur, Sadum and Kalikiri, with a population of 11.05 lakh.

Major Revenue Division Realignments

Key changes include merging Nandigam mandal with Tekkali in Srikakulam; creating Nakkapalli division in Anakapalli; shifting Samarlakota into Peddapuram division; reorganising Mandapeta, Rayavaram and Kapileswarapuram under Rajamahendravaram; and establishing Addanki division by reorganising mandals from Prakasam district. Several mandals in Nellore, Tirupati, Kadapa, Anantapur and Nandyal districts have also been reassigned to ensure administrative efficiency.

Nine districts—Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu and Anantapur—see no changes in this round of restructuring.

The Cabinet will take up the proposals shortly, paving the way for formal district reorganisation across Andhra Pradesh.
