Government Approves Two-Lane Bridge at Kondaveetivagu Sluice in Amaravati

From Our Correspondent

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has cleared the construction of a new two-lane bridge at the Kondaveetivagu sluice on the Amaravati Karakatta road, addressing long-standing traffic bottlenecks in Undavalli. The project, estimated at ₹55.58 crore, has moved forward with the Amaravati Development Corporation inviting tenders.

The bridge will be completed within 12 months, followed by another 12 months of maintenance by the contractor. At present, only a single-lane passage exists at the sluice point, forcing diversion of traffic—especially during peak evening hours—despite the route being used daily by the Chief Minister, ministers and senior officials.

A bridge was first proposed in 2018–19, but political changes stalled progress. The revived plan includes a new regulator, ship lock for Kondaveetivagu and the Guntur channel, and an upgraded modern road on the lines of the Krishna Western Canal.
