Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh RERA will organise monthly conferences across all erstwhile districts to raise awareness among builders and homebuyers about the provisions and obligations under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, Chairman A. Shiva Reddy announced on Monday. The first such conference will be held on December 10 in Tirupati, covering builders, buyers and officials from all urban local bodies in the Chittoor region.
Speaking at a media briefing at the newly relocated RERA office on the CRDA premises in Amaravati, Shiva Reddy said there is still inadequate public understanding of the rights RERA grants homebuyers and the mandatory registration requirements for all new real estate projects. “Many buyers are unaware of the protections available to them, and several builders remain unclear about compliance norms. These conferences are intended to bridge that gap,” he said.
‘Builders Must Avoid Impossible Promises’
The chairman cautioned developers against making exaggerated claims in brochures. “Builders should only promise what they can deliver. Overcommitting and under-delivering will lead to legal trouble. Projects must be completed within the stipulated timeframe, and we will not spare anyone if buyers suffer losses,” he warned. He added that RERA is prepared to complete project registrations within an hour if builders upload all required documents correctly.
Buyers Can File Complaints Online
Shiva Reddy reminded homebuyers that they can file complaints online if they believe they have suffered a loss or violation. “Even though the office has shifted to Amaravati, complainants will not face any inconvenience. Our focus is on ensuring justice,” he said.
AP RERA officials will soon visit Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat to study best practices, with plans to adopt effective models in the state.
RERA Director Damacharla Srinivasa Rao noted that since September 17, when the new leadership took charge, 270 real estate projects have been registered through a transparent process. He added that the RERA bench now convenes twice a week—on Thursdays and Fridays—compared to once a week earlier. Directors Kameshwar Rao, Kuldeep, Jagannath Rao, Venkata Ratnam and Town Planning Director Nagasundari were present.
