Visakhapatnam: Ambuja Cements Limited, part of the Adani Group, is set to establish a new cement grinding unit within the industrial estate of Adani Gangavaram Port in Andhra Pradesh.
Spread over eight hectares, the facility will be developed without any fresh land acquisition, as it lies within the port’s designated industrial zone.
According to an official release on Saturday, the proposed unit is being designed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. It will utilise industrial byproducts such as slag and fly ash from nearby steel and power plants — a move aligned with circular economy principles.
Key raw materials like clinker and gypsum will be transported via rail and sea, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to road transport. The project is classified under the ‘Orange Category’, indicating a low environmental footprint as it involves no fuel combustion or chemical processing.
The plant will feature advanced dust control systems including high-efficiency baghouses, bag filters, and mechanised road sweepers to maintain a clean, dust-free operational environment. Designed for minimal water usage, it will function on a zero-liquid discharge model, conserving local water resources and protecting ecological balance.
The project supports Andhra Pradesh’s industrial and infrastructure development goals, while contributing to Ambuja’s national expansion strategy, having recently surpassed the 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity milestone in FY25.
Ambuja Cements, which has SBTi-validated net-zero targets and holds a CDP leadership score of A–, reiterated its commitment to combining industrial growth with environmental responsibility.
