Andhra Pradesh Unveils New Bar Policy, Aims for Transparency and Regulation

The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday announced its new bar policy for the 2025–27 licensing period, introducing significant changes aimed at improving transparency, revenue collection, and regulatory oversight in the liquor trade.

Under the revised policy, bar licenses will now be issued through an e-auction process to ensure fairness and eliminate middlemen. The government has also increased the license period from one year to two years, giving bar operators greater operational stability.

Officials said the new policy includes stricter enforcement measures to curb illegal liquor sales and ensure adherence to operational guidelines. Digital monitoring systems will be implemented to track bar operations and prevent violations.

The government expects the e-auction method and improved compliance to boost excise revenue, which is a significant contributor to the state’s finances. The policy also aims to maintain a balance between commercial activity and social responsibility, officials added.

The new bar policy will come into effect from September 1, 2025, replacing the existing framework. Applications for participation in the e-auction process will be invited shortly.
