Raiden Infotech, Google affiliate, proposes 1,000 MW AI-powered facility; Andhra Pradesh emerges as India’s new data hub

Visakhapatnam: Global technology giant Google, through its affiliate Raiden Infotech India Pvt. Ltd, is planning a massive $10 billion (₹87,250 crore) investment to establish a 1,000 MW AI-powered data centre cluster in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The proposal positions the coastal city as a key player in India’s growing digital infrastructure landscape.

According to sources, Raiden Infotech has submitted its proposals to the state government, outlining plans to complete the first-phase unit within two and a half years. A high-level committee of officials is currently reviewing the project details, including land allocation and incentive structures.

The proposed investment would make this one of Asia’s largest data centre developments, complementing an earlier plan by Sify Technologies, which has already received government clearance for a ₹16,000 crore data centre complex in Visakhapatnam. It may be recalled that in July last Reuters news agency had reported that Google was planning to invest $6 billion for setting up a data centre in Visakhapatnam. Now, the investment has apparently been scaled up.

Three sites identified across 480 acres

Raiden Infotech has sought land in three locations across the erstwhile Visakhapatnam district—120 acres at Adavivaram, 200 acres at Tharluvada, and 160 acres at Rambilli–Achyutapuram cluster—to host the data centre facilities.

Once approvals are in place, construction is expected to begin by March 2026, with operations targeted to start by July 2028. The combined power demand for the three data centres is estimated at 2,100 MW, to be sourced from state power utilities. Site-wise, Adavivaram will require 465 MW, Tharluvada 929 MW, and Rambilli 697 MW, according to project documents.

Global backing and structure

Raiden Infotech India Pvt. Ltd is a subsidiary of Raiden APAC Investment Holding, a Singapore-based firm that holds a majority stake. Raiden APAC, in turn, is an affiliate of Google LLC, which will finance the data centre project as part of its long-term infrastructure expansion in India. The company has informed the government that it is listed among the public limited companies on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

If approved, the Visakhapatnam cluster would be a major milestone in Google’s India operations and could turn Andhra Pradesh into a strategic digital infrastructure hub—leveraging its renewable energy potential, coastal connectivity for submarine cables, and land availability at concessional terms.
