Kakinada: Coromandel International Limited, one of India’s leading fertiliser manufacturers with a major production base in Kakinada, is undertaking a significant expansion of its operations in Andhra Pradesh. The company has completed the construction of new phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid plants at an investment of ₹1,100 crore.
The new facilities, built with a focus on self-reliance in raw material production and environmentally sustainable technologies, will be inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on June 18.
Coromandel International entered Kakinada in a major way after acquiring and merging Godavari Fertilisers in 2003. At the time, the facility had an annual production capacity of 830,000 tonnes. Over the past two decades, the company has expanded this capacity to 2.25 million tonnes.
The company is now setting up an additional complex fertiliser manufacturing unit with a capacity of 750,000 tonnes per annum. Once the expansion is completed, Kakinada is expected to emerge as the largest integrated complex fertiliser manufacturing hub in the country.
Speaking to Eenadu, Dr K. Satyanarayana, Vice President (Corporate Affairs) of Coromandel International, said the latest investments would strengthen the company’s production ecosystem, improve operational efficiencies and enhance India’s fertiliser self-sufficiency.
The expansion is also expected to generate economic activity in the region and further reinforce Kakinada’s position as one of the country’s most important fertiliser manufacturing centres.
